Tiera Rivers: 26-Year-Old Woman Killed Protecting Her Sister
Tiera Rivers, 26, was a good sister, her siblings told local media.
“She is a very bubbly, goofy person. She’d always bring light to any situation, any mood, and she definitely made sure we were always good,” Sydney Rivers, her younger sister, told local TV station KCRA-3.
Rivers was staying at an apartment complex with her older sister when she walked in on a confrontation that she tried to cool off. Instead, things got even more heated.
At an apartment complex in Sacramento, California, around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Rivers walked into an apartment and immediately came to her sister Amber’s defense, jumping in the middle of an argument between her and her former boyfriend.
“Me and my son's dad got into an argument,” Amber told KCRA-3. “He didn't want her to be there while we were arguing. So, it just kind of escalated and it shouldn't have."
Tempers flared as Amber’s ex-boyfriend allegedly killed Rivers.
“My sister tried to protect me, and she lost her life while doing so,” Amber said. “I was trying to help her the best I could, trying to get her hope.”
Later that evening, the ex-boyfriend, died after shooting himself, police say.
Now, Rivers’ siblings are doing what they can to honor their sister’s memory.
“We're trying to create an organization in honor of Tiera, since she was so protective, and she lost her life in doing so.” Amber was quoted as saying. “Creating an organization called 'Tiera Rivers' Sisters Against Spousal Abuse' to help other women in the world that are experiencing similar things to try to get them help or remove them from the situation.”
The sisters hope that Rivers’ legacy can be honored by helping other people.
“Any type of help so we can be there to help them, so this doesn't happen to somebody else,” Amber said.
A GoFundMe set up by the family says, “She was a beautiful young princess who brought so much joy to our lives, and the pain of losing her is unimaginable.”
