Fairfax County police are investigating the shooting death of Lavinia Brown, 31, inside a home in the 6300 block of Sharps Drive in Centreville. Detectives believe her husband, Brandon Brown, 31, shot her and then turned the gun on himself.

Officers were called to the house around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday after a family member who also lived there dialed 911 to report a shooting. They found Lavinia and Brandon inside with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three children were in the home when the shooting happened. Police said they were not physically injured and are now with family. Victim services advocates are working with relatives.

Officers recovered a gun and cartridge casings from the house. Police have said there is no threat to the public.

Spokesperson Ingrid Palencia described the case as devastating for the neighborhood and said detectives were still investigating. Later reporting from Fairfax County police identified the couple and said investigators believe Brandon shot Lavinia before killing himself.

Lavinia Brown was 31. She died in the home she shared with her husband and children. The investigation remains active.
