Jermia Offutt: 28-Year-Old Pregnant Mom Shot Dead in Louisville Neighborhood
A family mourns the loss of two lives after 28-year-old Jermia Offutt, four months pregnant, was fatally shot in Louisville's Chickasaw neighborhood Wednesday night, August 13, 2025.
Jermia Offutt was four months pregnant with a boy on the way, according to her family. Now, her three young children are now left without their mom.
Louisville Metro Police responded around 9 p.m. to the 4100 block of West Broadway, where they found Offutt with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Her mother, Angie Davis, expressed her anguish, noting that Offutt’s three young children, who witnessed the shooting, are now motherless.
"Somebody please help us. Help me, help my daughter, help my grandbabies to know who did this to they mama," Davis told WLKY in Louisville. "They not only killed my daughter, but they killed my grandson," Angie Davis, the mother of Jermia Offutt, said.
"They seen they mother get killed," Offutt's uncle was quoted as saying. "My niece was a loving person," he said as he cried. "And you all don't know what you took from not only me, but her friends that she loved so much, her kids, everybody. If you only knew who she was."
Community activist Rhonda Mathis also voiced outrage, referencing another recent killing in west Louisville. No arrests have been made, and LMPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating.
"I'm angry because a mother walking her child to the bus stop in broad daylight is murdered. Say her name was Shonda Williams. Juicy aka juicy," said Rhonda Mathis, community activist. "I'm angry because a pregnant mother murdered inside the store. Double homicide. Mother and child say her name. Jermia Offutt."
No arrests have been made in Offutt's case.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
