T’Miya Murphy: Teen Shot In Head In Virginia Highway Shooting
T’Miya Orniqué Murphy, a 19-year-old Chesterfield, Virginia teen, was driving on I-85 when she was shot to death on August 1, 2023.
T’Miya Orniqué Murphy of Chesterfield, Virginia, was an avid TikTok user who was well loved by her friends and family.
The 2022 high school graduate received her Medical Assistant Certification from Chesterfield Career and Technical Center and hopeful for a career in health care.
“Miya was a loveable, kind-hearted, and very goofy young lady. She loved to dance and sing. Miya always said she was going to be “TikTok famous” and she was known for her favorite word, “Bruh,” according to her obituary.
T’Miya was shot in the head on August 1, 2023, while she was behind the wheel of her vehicle. She crashed on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, according to Virginia State Police.
The police account of the shooting, which happened about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
"As a 2017 Kia Optima was traveling southbound on I-85, it was fired at by a passing vehicle," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said, according to TV station WTRV. "Immediately following the shooting, the sedan crossed the southbound lanes of 85 and crashed on the right shoulder on I-85."
T’Miya was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died, according to police.
"At this time, we have no reason to believe that this was a road rage incident," Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jessica Shehan said at the scene. "We've had no other people come forward and no other witnesses or anything that suggested it was a road rage incident.”
Authorities announced the arrest of a 15-year-old boy, who had allegedly stolen a vehicle during the incident.
