Desiree George: Killed While Driving In Apparent Road Rage Shooting In Atlanta

Family members of Desiree George, a 31-year-old mother to two kids, used words like “positive” and “uplifting” to describe her. 

George came to Atlanta, Georgia, for Labor Day weekend. About 2 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, she was driving on Browns Mill Road on the city’s southeast side when she was fatally shot multiple times.

Atlanta Police are searching for the gunman in what they are calling an apparent case of road rage.

“I heard the screech, then the bam!” neighbor Yasmin Davis told local TV station WSB.

The deadly shooting happened early Tuesday morning in southeast Atlanta.

"Just losing her to a senseless crime, it's hard to bear," said Charles George, Desiree’s brother, told Atlanta’s Fox 5 TV station. "I am going to remember her in the light that she was," he said. "Positive, uplifting, being a defender, being an awesome mother."

The brother told the media outlet that George had two children,  a 7-year-old son and a nearly 1-year-old daughter. The son was in the car with his mother when she was killed.

"The child was screaming for help," a witness told the TV station. "I don't know what the child was screaming help for, but the child was screaming, help, help."

Witnesses have come forward to say that they saw several cars circling a nearby apartment complex before the shots rang out.

APD Homicide Commander Germain Dearlove told Atlanta TV station 11Alive that investigators have launched an investigation and are trying to talk to more witnesses. 

"As in any case, a person is not with us right now because of violence, and we’re gonna learn, we’re gonna identify the suspects involved and get them in custody so they’re not a danger to anyone else. No one should die by violence," Dearlove said.

Atlanta police have yet to reveal a motive for the shooting nor if anyone has been arrested.
