Dalanna Bailey of Newton County, Georgia, was recently found guilty of fatally shooting 27-year-old La’Peachah Nash during the pandemic.

During the fatal shooting, which occurred just weeks after the country emerged from COVID lockdown, a  man, Deshawn Grayson, was also shot, but survived.

Bailey was holding her infant in her arm when she blasted the firearm.

The tragedy unfolded on May 13, 2020, when Nash drove Bailey’s baby father to an apartment to give money to Bailey to help care for the child. An argument ensued in which “yelling and screaming” took place, the sheriff’s office said.

Bailey, while holding her 1-year-old child, then brandished a firearm in her waistband. When the baby’s father tried to retrieve the gun from Bailey, she warned him that she had a bullet in the chamber.

“The male victim then ran away towards Ms. Nash's car with the Defendant chasing him. The male made it to Ms. Nash's car and they attempted to drive away. The Defendant, while still holding the one year old, shot at least three shots into the driver side window. One round fatally struck Nash who was in the driver's seat. The male was also shot in the back,” the sheriff’s office said in the press release.

Nash, who had been shot in the head, was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The male would survive his wound.

Bailey fled the scene of the shooting, but was apprehended later that day at a motel in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Bailey was convicted of several counts, including Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder, Aggravated Assault (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony (2 counts), and Cruelty to Children in the Third Degree.

The jury deliberated for less than an hour, according to a press release from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

Bailey will be sentenced on March 7, according to the sheriff’s office.
