Denisha Delancy: Woman, 29, Fatally Ambushed While on Vacation in Sint Maarten

Denisha Delancy, a 29-year-old woman from Miami, Florida, traveled to Sint Maarten, was fatally shot on March 2, 2026, in what authorities later determined was a coordinated ambush.

Denisha Delancy, a 29-year-old woman from Miami, Florida, traveled to Sint Maarten (St. Maarten) for a vacation with her sister (and reportedly another friend).

What was meant to be a relaxing getaway ended in tragedy when she was fatally shot on March 2, 2026, in what authorities later determined was a coordinated ambush tied to organized crime. Her body was returned to Miami, where she was laid to rest following funeral services.

Early on the morning of Monday, March 2, 2026, police initially responded to what appeared to be a serious traffic accident on Arlet Peters Road, also known as Old Cake House Road, in Philipsburg. A vehicle had overturned, and two people inside were found dead at the scene.

The male driver was identified as Quincy Damon Sylvester (also referred to in some reports as Damien Selvister or Damon Sylvester), a Trinidadian national who lived on the island and operated a PVC pipe installation and sales business on Welgelegen Road in Cay Hill. The female passenger was confirmed as Denisha Delancy, an American tourist visiting the Dutch side of the island.

What first looked like a car crash quickly came under scrutiny by the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) Major Crimes Team.

Investigators determined the incident was a double homicide resulting from a targeted shooting ambush. Surveillance footage from the Nowhere Special nightclub (also referenced in some reports as the White Rabbit) showed unknown individuals closely monitoring Sylvester in the hours leading up to the attack, suggesting a carefully planned hit.

The vehicle carrying Sylvester and Delancy was ambushed as they traveled along the road, with gunfire causing the crash.

Sylvester was described by authorities and local media as a suspected kingpin in the island’s criminal underworld. His legitimate-looking PVC business allegedly served as a front for illicit drug operations, and he had known ties to law enforcement and broader regional criminal networks, including connections to other recent violent incidents like the Plumpy Boss shooting. Delancy, by contrast, had no apparent involvement in criminal activity; she was simply a tourist who appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time while out with Sylvester.

The investigation moved quickly. On the day of the shooting, KPSM conducted targeted house searches across Sint Maarten. By March 4, 2026, officers arrested a Trinidadian national identified only by the initials A.H. in connection with the double homicide. He remains in custody.

Police have stated that the main suspect is still at large and that all individuals believed to be involved in the plot are from Trinidad. The Prosecutor’s Office is working closely with investigators, who continue to pursue multiple leads and expect further arrests.

Authorities have appealed to the public for information, urging anyone with details to contact KPSM at +1 (721) 542-2222 or the anonymous tip line at 9300.

News of Delancy’s death spread rapidly on social media, where friends, family, and members of the Miami community expressed shock and grief. Posts highlighted the heartbreaking detail that she had gone on vacation with her sister but returned home in a casket. Funeral arrangements were handled by Mitchell Funeral Home in Miami.

A visitation was held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel on 8080 Northwest 22nd Avenue. A Celebration of Life service followed on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at 93rd Street Community Baptist Church.

The case has drawn attention to the risks faced by tourists in the Caribbean amid ongoing issues with transnational crime, gang activity, and drug-related violence in Sint Maarten.

While Sylvester was the apparent primary target, Delancy’s death as an innocent bystander has underscored broader concerns about safety on the island. As of early April 2026, the investigation remains active, with police emphasizing the need to prevent retaliatory violence and bring all responsible parties to justice.

Denisha Delancy’s story is a tragic reminder of how quickly a dream vacation can turn deadly. Her family and friends remember her as a vibrant young woman whose life was cut short far too soon.
