Arianna Murphy: 19-Year-Old Shot, Killed in Mass Shooting at Chicago Party

Arianna Murphy was a career-minded teenager who was looking forward to enrolling in nursing school in the summer of 2024.

Arianna was at a late–night party when shots rang out in Chicago on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, said she was set to start nursing school this summer.

As a teen, she also liked to go out every now and then. She was supposed to go bowling, but an associate suggested they stop by a party. Just after 1 a.m. on the city’s West Side, Arianna and some other young women were inside an establishment when a group began to shoot at them, according to Chicago police.

In the chaos, Arianna was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 1:24 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Several other people were hit as well, including a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the leg, a 20-year-old woman and two other teens, 16 and 19, police said.

“My baby was only 19,” the victim’s mother Shatika Morgan told the Sun-Times newspaper. “She never bothered anybody. She was friendly. She had a beautiful spirit.

"That was my best friend. I was 19 when I had her, so we grew together. That was my baby.”

“Arianna just wanted to go outside this weekend,” Morgan said. “Arianna [usually] stays in the house. If she does anything with friends, she does game nights in the house. … She wasn’t a party person.”

Chicago police still don’t know what the circumstances are surrounding the shooting. If you have any information, please contact the authorities.
