Doumba Sannoh: 17-Year-Old Mother Gunned Down At Georgia Home
Doumba Sannoh, 17, should have been enjoying the blessing of a lifetime, a new baby. The young Georgia mother's life was cut short, courtesy of a bullet.
The tragedy occurred Sunday, August 5, 2018 shooting about 9 a.m., in the Atlanta suburb of Riverdale, officials said. That's when law enforcement said the father of the child, who had a protection order against him, showed up at Doumba's home.
The young couple were talking when a violent outburst transpired, according to CBS 46 in Atlanta.
“Family members, who were upstairs in the residence with the couple’s child (8 months old) went to investigate the sound of gunfire downstairs and found both parties laying on the floor of the home, suffering from gunshot wounds,” Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said in an emailed statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Clayton County authorities said Darian Sheffield, 19, apparently shot Doumba then turned the gun on himself. Sheffield died at Atlanta Medical Center, Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury told AJC.com.
“Family members, who were upstairs in the residence with the couple’s 8-month-old child, went to investigate the sound of gunfire downstairs and found both parties laying on the floor of the home, suffering from gunshot wounds,” Marbury said. “The preliminary investigation revealed that the male shot the female before turning the gun on himself.”
Doumba leaves behind an 8-month-old baby.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to handle funeral arrangements for Doumba's family. It reads:
Doumba came to America in 2005 from West Africa with her mother in hopes of a better life. She attended Riverdale High School where she was an honor roll student since her freshman year. While attending she met who she thought was the love of her life and the father of her 8 month old son.
On the 5th of August around 8:00am their sons life changed for the worst. For a few months Doumba and the child's father were having previous issues where a restraining order had to be taken. Unfortunately this did not prevent him from sneaking into the house and murdering her while she was making breakfast for her mother.
This has been a devastating blow not just for my family but mainly for her 8 month old son. We as the family are in need of assistance for her final funeral arrangements which has caught all of us off guard. Her son is in need as well since he will need counseling for the traumatic event of now losing both parents.
