Destiny Reed: 24-Year-Old Woman Shot In Head In Drive-By In Detroit
Destiny Desiree Reed, 24, was a young woman with her whole life in front of her.
According to authorities, Reed pulled up at a home on the east side of Detroit and when she got out, another car sped up and gunshots rang out.
Reed was killed just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019, the early hours of Mother’s Day. She was shot in the head at a home near Van Dyke and Gratiot Avenue, police said
Paramedics responded after a frantic 911 call, but they were unable to save the victim.
"I heard 'Help' (three times)," witness Tyrell Myles told local media. "All I heard was pop. I think anything of it. I heard it from that church (down the street).
Neighbors said the gunshots rattled them in the middle of the night. "We were terrified," Marnisha Lewis told media. "[Police officers] asked us if we had anything on our camera, but we didn't have anything."
Authorities are investigating whether gangs are responsible for Reed’s death, especially since another woman was gunned down a day later on the east side.
Nyree Henderson was murdered on a Detroit street on Monday, May 13. Like Reed, she was also 24 years old.
"It's just so many young women being murdered," Dorothy Trammell. who considered Henderson her daughter-in-law. told WXYZ.
