Kendra Childs: Young mother shot in head in Houston apartment

Kendra Childs, 19, was shot dead in her Houston apartment from the window on September 13, 2016. Police are still looking for her killers.

Kendra Childs was a young mother trying to care for her beautiful 1-year-old child. Now her child faces a world without her mother.

Childs, a Walmart clerk, was alone in her Houston, Texas apartment when police say somebody aimed a gun at her from the street and fired at least five bullets toward her head, striking the young woman dead. Childs was one day away from her 20th birthday.

The brazen shooting occurred in broad daylight a little after noontime on Tuesday.

Police are investigating the not-too-veiled threats made on social media by Twitter user "Lady Cocaine."

“We’re aware of it and we’ve gotten multiple calls,” Victor Sentries, Houston police spokesman, told International Business Times in a phone interview. “We take any lead and will investigate it to check on its credibility.” He added: “This is currently an ongoing investigation.”

Police say a man and woman was seen in a car that sped off.

"Witnesses reported seeing a black newer model Camaro with standard rims and tinted windows drive by the house and fire multiple rounds," Mark Holdbrook with the Houston Police Department homicide unit, told ABC7 News.

Childs' boyfriend came home and discovered the body, according to KHOU-TV.

"I feel very broken, and it just hurt because she didn't deserve to go like this. I understand it was her time, but she didn't have to go like this. She didn't even make it to her birthday tomorrow," Angel Whitaker, Childs' cousin, told ABC7 said.

"Whoever did this, they were wrong and we will get justice for her," Whitaker she said.

Police found the Camaro on a city street, but have stopped short of connecting it to the slaying.

Houston police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
